Will I lose my housing?
- Nobody will lose their housing as a result of this project.
- What about COVID-19?
- Yes, the construction workers will be taking every necessary safety precaution into account during this entire process.
- When will I be temporarily moved?
- The full schedule is not available, but you will be given plenty of advanced notice when it is time for the work to take place on your unit.
- Do I have to move? What if I don’t want construction done on my unit?
- We definitely understand that this process may seem inconvenient and even unpleasant. Please know that we are doing our best to ensure that the entire process is as smooth as possible for you. Every unit will be impacted during this project, and the team of staff members working on this project will be with you every step of the way.
- Do I need to keep paying rent?
- Please continue to pay your rent and communicate with the property management office if you have any concerns.
- Q: What’s going to happen to my belongings?
- Several weeks before your move date, our team will meet with you for an interview where we will walk you through every step of the process including packing for the move and preparing your belongings that will not go with you to the temporary unit. This meeting will be our team and just you, so you will be able to ask all your questions and help us determine how we can make this process as smooth as possible for specifically. This meeting would be a great time to discuss what will happen to your belongings during this process.
- Will the TRU have cable and internet?
- Yes.
- What about my shower chair and grab bars?
- Several weeks before your move date, our team will meet with you for an interview where we will walk you through every step of the process including any special accommodations that you need while in your temporary unit. This meeting will be our team and just you, so you will be able to ask all your questions and help us determine how we can make this process as smooth as possible for specifically. That would be a perfect time to discuss how we can accommodate your shower chair and grab bar needs.
- Will I get help packing? Will we get boxes and moving supplies?
- Yes, we will make sure you have everything you need to go through this process smoothly. We can discuss more in detail at the interview that you will have with our team when it is your turn to move.
- I have a mounted TV, will I get help putting back up?
- Yes.
- How much time am I getting to pack and move?
- The actual moving into the temporary unit will be done in one day, and you will have plenty of help to ensure it can be done smoothly. We will have packing supplies available for you well ahead of your moving day, and we can discuss those details further during your individual interview closer to your actual move date.
- Can I see the TRU before I have to move? How will I know what I need to take with me?
- We cannot show the temporary unit to you ahead of time, as it will be in use by another resident. We will meet with you individually when it is your turn to help you plan for packing and to support your specific needs during this process.
- If I don’t want to go through this renovation, can I just move out? Will there be any penalties? Can I get my full security deposit back since you are ripping everything up anyways?
- Refusing to move temporarily for the construction would be considered a violation of your lease agreement; please contact the Property Management staff on the Plaza Relocation Team to discuss your interest in moving out entirely in detail. - Will the temporary unit be cleaned and disinfected?
- Yes.
- Why are you guys doing this now? Why can it wait till after the pandemic?
- We understand that it is not an ideal time to begin a major project with all that is happening in the world; unfortunately, our timeline is not negotiable as it is connected to the funding for the project, and the ball was rolling on this long before the pandemic began. We appreciate your understanding!
- I have lived here the longest, why is my unit not done first?
- The timeline of whose unit has work done first is determined by the company doing the construction, and they know better than we do as to the best order for the most efficiency.
- Will I get to pick my TRU unit?
- No
- The notice I received said something about reimbursement, what will I get reimbursed for? How much money am I going to get?
- Yes, thank you for reading your notice thoroughly. We don’t anticipate that you will have expenses that come up as a result of this project, but we will be happy to discuss any reasonable out of pocket expenses that might be eligible for reimbursement at the individual interview our team will have you when it is your turn.
- I have a full-size refrigerator for my medication, can that be moved to the temporary unit?
- Thank you for letting us know! Several weeks before your move date, our team will meet with you for an interview where we will walk you through every step of the process including any special accommodations that you need while in your temporary unit. This meeting will be our team and just you, so you will be able to ask all your questions and help us determine how we can make this process as smooth as possible for specifically. That would be a perfect time to discuss how we can accommodate this particular need.
- Will there be full refrigerators provided in the TRU units?
- Yes.
- Will there be a food stipend?
- No, you will have everything that you currently have available to you for food storage and preparation.
- Will phone service be available in TRU units?
- Yes.
- Will carpet be replaced in units with carpet/ laminate?
- This would be a great question to discuss during your individual interview; the primary focus will be to improve your kitchen, but on a case-by-case basis, we will be happy to discuss and consider everyone’s specific needs as well.
- After renovations, will units be supplied with new furniture?
- Not every unit will receive new furniture after the renovations; please make sure to bring this during your individual interview to learn more.
- Will the building be supplied with new/working security cameras?
- Yes
- Will a television be provided in the TRU unit?
- Yes
- If my unit has been renovated, will I have to move?
- Yes, everyone will need to move temporarily at some point during this project.
- What if I refuse to have my unit renovated? Will I be forced out?

- Would we be supplied with an image of the TRU units?
- We may be providing photos for you closer to your move date; please also check this page often for updates!
- If I prefer a hotel over a TRU unit, will I be reimbursed?
- No
