CVC Gets A Makeover!
On May 24th more than 300 volunteers from Nestlé USA in partnership with the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation, Long Beach Community Action Partnership, and Century Villages at Cabrillo worked to beautify the campus by sprucing up the existing Kaboom Playspace and planting over 60 varieties of fruit trees.
In just a few short hours Nestle volunteers and CVC staff accomplished so much!
- We planted 164 fruit trees. Some will bear fruit soon as they are dwarf trees and the rest will grow into a very substantial orchard in the next few years and will be a beautiful addition to the campus as well as a source of food and enjoyment for the residents.
- We painted 11 benches and the fence surrounding the Kaboom area which completely revamps the playground, it looks bright and clean and very inviting to the children. The paint will also protect the wood so the space can be enjoyed for years to come.
- We built 18 new benches for the campus, including 6 very unique types with planters and game boards attached.
- We repainted the crosswalks and STOP lines in the road near the school and childcare center.
- We repainted the game courts and wall inside of Bethune School play yard.
- AND…We mulched! What a job that was, very hard work but well worth the effort, it made a huge difference.
Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make this a successful event!
We especially want to thank Nestlé USA for their ongoing and generous support for CVC and look forward to more projects with them in the future.
