CVC Celebrates Cabrillo Gateway Grand Opening
Today, Century Villages at Cabrillo staff, residents, and nearly 300 guests, celebrated the grand opening of Cabrillo Gateway, the fourth phase of campus development featuring 80 permanent supportive homes.
Brian D’Andrea, CVC’s President, gave a genuine thank you to the financial partners, city officials, and agencies who made the project possible. Ron Griffith, President of Century Housing, introduced The Honorable Judge Harry Pregerson, who was very moved by the enthusiasm surrounding the project, and reminded attendees that “the best thing we can hope to aspire to is to help other people.” The Pregerson Tower, an imposing bell tower at the most prominent corner of the development, was dedicated to Judge Pregerson following the ribbon cutting in honor for his leadership in the conversion of CVC from a downtrodden naval base to a thriving campus housing more than 1,300 veterans and families.
Located at the foot of the Villages at Cabrillo campus, Cabrillo Gateway serves as the iconic development at the entry and physical gateway to the community. For residents, it represents the symbolic gateway out of homelessness and into a hopeful, healthy future. The development enhances CVC’s housing by expanding its permanent offerings for families and addressing a documented need for special needs households. All 80 of the new homes are set aside for special needs populations, 16 of which will be MHSA-qualified.
Cabrillo Gateway is enriched with supportive services through CVC’s Resident Services Team and CVC’s network of 20 on-site service providers. Specifically, CVC has partnered with the County Department of Mental health to provide targeted mental health services to MHSA-eligible households. Further, The Children’s Clinic is operating a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) on the ground floor of Cabrillo Gateway.
