Hacienda of Hope and Project Return were recently profiled in NPR’s Marketplace Morning Report. In this profile, journalist Robert Garrova speaks with Hacienda of Hope staff and discusses how Hacienda of Hope operates, the types of services provided, and how Hacienda of Hope has been impacted by COVID-19. Click here to listen to Hacienda of Hope’s recent profile and learn more about how Hacienda of Hope offers support to people who are in crisis and experiencing mental illness, and the ways that Project Return is revolutionizing the way that mental health services are provided in LA County.
Nestled within the larger community of Century Villages at Cabrillo, Hacienda of Hope offers support and safety for people with mental illness that are experiencing a stressful life event or crisis. Hacienda of Hope first opened in Century Villages in 2014. It is a peer-run residential respite program that provides support as an alternative to hospitalization. Some amenities provided by Hacienda of Hope include access to a fully functional kitchen, a computer lab, and self-help and wellness groups. Another important feature available to guests at Hacienda of Hope is the opportunity to meet individually with peer providers, who can provide assistance with finding community resources. Guests can connect one-on-one with a peer provider and receive assistance with setting goals, creating individualized wellness and recovery plans, and linking with local organizations and resources.
Hacienda of Hope provides also provides services to the Century Villages community. Services include a 24/7 peer support line where community members can also connect with peer providers and receive referrals/linkage to community resources. To access this service, Century Villages community members can call 562.388.8183. Additionally, Hacienda of Hope also operates a “Warm line” where community members who are experiencing a difficult or stressful time or would just like to share and talk to someone can receive support. To access this service, community members can call 1-888-448-9777 to speak with someone in English, or 1-888-448-4055 to speak with someone in Spanish. The hours of operation for the Warm line are Monday – Friday 2:30 PM – 10:00 PM, Saturdays 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM, and closed on Sundays. Looking towards the future Jessica Oyerzides, Program Manager for Hacienda of Hope, looks forward to a time when Hacienda of Hope can safely resume opening self-help and wellness group to the entire Century Villages community.
